Django Reinhardt Gypsy Jazz Festival Swing 41 2010 - June 4/5/6 |
Why Salbris?
Because this is where Django Reinhardt got married in 1943. Indeed, Django enjoyed fishing and he used to come here on a regular basis. However, another passion made him famous - acoustic guitar. Django Reinhardt was a member of the Hot Club de France and contributed along with Stéphane Grapelli to shaping Gypsy jazz into a musical style of its own. Gypsy jazz somehow lingered on in the Salbrisian atmosphere until a few friends and musicians resolved to pay a tribute to Django by dedicating him a festival. In 2002 they managed to convince local authorities and Swing 41 was born. 41 is a reference to both the Loir-et-Cher département and to the song written in the same year by Django Reinhardt. The emblem of the festival is a young wild boar as the region surrounding Salbris, called Sologne, is famous for hunting activities.
